Security at home training: House Rules

Security at Home training in a 2:31 animated story. It covers Family devices, children, shared accounts, smart home. In English and Arabic, with captions you can switch on or off, and a scenario quiz at the end.

What your team will learn

  • Identify a 'free' offer that asks for a password as a trick, and state that children ask a grown-up first and use a child account that needs a grown-up's OK to buy or sign in.

  • State why one password shared by the whole household is one key to everything, and give each person their own login, sharing through the family features.

  • Give each smart home device (door camera, speaker, TV) its own new password in place of the default, and keep its updates on.

  • Respond to a sign-in you didn't expect: change the password, sign out every other device, and report it to your security team if it is a work account.

The story

“House Rules” is the story at the heart of this course. Sami (site security officer) is the lead character; the learner watches the situation unfold, spots the warning signs, and sees the right thing to do. Set in Nakhlora Group, a fictional Gulf company.

Sample quiz question

A box in Yaseen's game says 'Free 3,000 gems!' and asks for the family password. What should he do?

  • Type it in, since the box is inside a game he trusts.
  • Stop, and ask a grown-up first: it's a trick.
  • Type it, then tell his mother afterwards so she knows.
  • Try his own school password instead of the family one.

Correct answer: Stop, and ask a grown-up first: it's a trick.

Why: A 'free' page that asks for a password is a trick, even inside a game. Children ask a grown-up first.

House Rules [0:00] Yaseen: Three thousand gems, free! It just wants the family password. [0:08] Sami: 'New sign-in to the Home account.' Yaseen, what did that game ask you for? [0:13] Yaseen: The password. The family one… Sorry, Dad. [0:18] Sami: That password shops on our card and shows our front-door camera. And a stranger has it now. [0:25] Sami: New password, right now. Then sign out every other device. [0:31] Narrator: A sign-in you didn't expect? Change the password, then sign out every other device, so the stranger is out too. [0:40] Yaseen: Will you report me to your security team? [0:44] Sami: If it were a work account, I'd report it to the security team. This one, we fix together. [0:52] Maha: Sami, just tell us the new one. One password, like always, so nobody has to ask. [0:58] Yaseen: So… no more gems? [1:01] Maha: And the door camera and the speaker? We never set them up. They came like that. [1:08] Narrator: Three things to fix: the shared password, the door camera, the kitchen speaker. Which is the biggest risk now? [1:21] Narrator: The shared password. Even a new one, if the whole house shares it, still opens everything. [1:30] Sami: So everyone gets their own login. Films and shopping, we share with the family features. [1:36] Maha: Fine. My own password, and the films stay shared. [1:40] Sami: Gems, yes, when you ask me first. A 'free' page that asks for a password is a trick. [1:47] Sami: Your new child account asks me before you buy or sign in. [1:53] Sami: No more default passwords on the camera and speaker. Each gets its own, and updates stay on. [2:01] Narrator: At home, give everyone their own login, children a child account, and every smart device its own password. Keep updates on. [2:10] Maha: My own password. Don't look, Sami. [2:14] Sami: I'm not looking. It's yours. [2:17] Narrator: Everyone at home gets their own login, and children ask before they tap 'free'. Work account involved? Contact your security team.
