OS updates training: Remind Me Tomorrow

OS Updates training in a 2:36 animated story. It covers Keeping your own laptop and phone updated; don’t postpone restarts. In English and Arabic, with captions you can switch on or off, and a scenario quiz at the end.

What your team will learn

  • State why a downloaded security update doesn't protect you until the restart, and restart your laptop and phone the same day they ask (not 'Remind me tomorrow', and not just closing the lid).

  • Identify the signs that a laptop or phone is behind on updates: a restart prompt that keeps being postponed, an update waiting, and automatic updates turned off.

  • Prepare for an update correctly: save your work, plug in, don't switch off during the install, keep automatic updates on, and let the phone install overnight, plugged in and on Wi-Fi.

  • Explain why devices that skip a released fix become targets, and contact IT Support when an update keeps failing.

The story

“Remind Me Tomorrow” is the story at the heart of this course. Omar (IT support lead) is the lead character; the learner watches the situation unfold, spots the warning signs, and sees the right thing to do. Set in Nakhlora Group, a fictional Gulf company.

Sample quiz question

Your laptop asks you to restart for a security update just as a colleague calls you for help. What is the best choice?

  • Click Remind me tomorrow, as tomorrow will be quieter.
  • Close the lid so the prompt goes away, then go and help.
  • Save your work and restart now, or pick a time later that day.
  • Leave it; it's downloaded, so you're already covered.

Correct answer: Save your work and restart now, or pick a time later that day.

Why: A restart takes minutes, and the fix only works after it. If now is a bad moment, choose a time the same day, not tomorrow.

Remind Me Tomorrow [0:00] Omar: On my way, Karim. Two minutes. [0:04] Omar: Printer again, Rob? Coming. [0:08] Narrator: Omar fixes everyone's laptop in minutes. His own has asked him to restart fourteen times. [0:19] Layla: Three laptops still without the fix... and one is Omar's. [0:25] Narrator: Security updates close flaws that criminals can use. Once a fix is out, they study it and look for devices without it. [0:36] Layla: Omar, got a minute? Attackers are already using this flaw. This fix can't wait. [0:42] Omar: I know. It's downloaded, it just needs a restart. [0:46] Layla: So it isn't protecting you yet. The fix only works after the restart. [0:52] Omar: You're right. I tell people that every day. Saving, plugging in, restarting. [1:00] Omar: Every time it asked, someone needed me more. [1:03] Layla: Then pick a time that same day, lunch or tonight. Tomorrow turned into two weeks. [1:10] Omar: And shutting the lid didn't help. Sleep isn't a restart. [1:17] Narrator: Omar's phone is behind too. Can you spot the two signs? [1:25] Layla: An update is waiting, and automatic updates are off. [1:30] Omar: I switched them off so it wouldn't restart when someone needs me. [1:35] Layla: Turn them on. Let it install overnight, plugged in, on Wi-Fi. [1:43] Omar: Ten minutes. And I made it wait two weeks. [1:47] Layla: Two left on the list. I'll go and find them. [1:53] Narrator: Your turn. When your laptop or phone asks to restart, save your work and plug in. [2:00] Narrator: Then restart that day, not tomorrow. And keep automatic updates on. [2:05] Narrator: Don't switch it off while it installs. [2:09] Narrator: If an update keeps failing, contact IT Support. [2:18] Omar: Updated overnight. And nobody had to wait for me. [2:23] Narrator: Remember: when your device asks you to restart, restart that day. Update keeps failing? Contact IT Support, or your security team.
